Honoring Bonnie's Legacy - SoCal Ride & Rally to Cure ALS
Why I'm Participating...
I'm participating in the SoCal Ride & Rally to Cure ALS in loving memory of my daughter-in-law's mother, Bonnie. She fought a courageous battle against familial ALS, but tragically, her fight did not end there. Now, my daughter-in-law Lauren lives with the ALS gene. This is a heartbreaking reality that no family should have to endure.
Bonnie (Grandma BB) was taken from us far too soon, and we were devastated to lose the opportunity to raise Holden together. But rather than succumb to despair, our family is channeling our grief into action. We are committed to raising awareness, funding critical research, and ensuring that no one else has to suffer the way Bonnie did. That's why I've set an ambitious goal of raising $10,000 for the SoCal Ride & Rally to Cure ALS.
By participating in this event, we're joining forces with a community of dedicated individuals who share our determination to find a cure. Every dollar we raise will go directly to supporting the groundbreaking work of ALS organizations, bringing us one step closer to the breakthrough we so desperately need.
But we can't do it alone. We're calling on friends, family, and the entire ALS community to join us in this fight. Whether you can donate, volunteer, or simply wear one of our custom ALS awareness shirts, your support will make a profound difference.
Together, let's honor Bonnie's legacy and ensure that no other family has to face the devastating impacts of this disease. United in our determination, let's work tirelessly until a cure is found.
Thank you for being part of this meaningful journey. Your generosity and compassion will truly change lives.
What is ALS?
Good question - I didn't know much about it either until it tragically invaded our lives. ALS, often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's disease," is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular illness that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe.
You may remember the Ice Bucket Challenge a few years back - that really helped raise awareness about this devastating disease. But the harsh reality is that ALS still has no known cure, and it steals people's dignity, independence and ultimately, their lives, far too quickly.
For our family, ALS has hit close to home in the most painful way. It has been heartbreaking beyond words. And the thought that Lauren and my lil grandson Holden may one day face the same battle is simply unacceptable.
That's why we're pouring our grief and frustration into this fight. We won't rest until a cure is found - not just for our loved ones, but for the millions of families worldwide impacted by ALS. Every dollar we raise through this event will fuel the critical research and support services needed to conquer this disease once and for all.
Why We Need Your Help
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
1. The average life expectancy of an ALS patient is two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
2. Every 90 minutes someone in this country is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease.
3. ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease. Someone you know or love may die from ALS unless a cure is found.
4. Caring for a loved one with ALS costs on average of $250,000 each year.
