In Honor of Dean's 80th Birthday on April 16, 2023
After losing his father to ALS in 1998, Dean put his grief into action. For over 30 years, Dean Rasmussen has been an active volunteer and a leadership donor to the Golden West Chapter of the ALS Association.
Dean is fondly referred to as The ALS Association’s “Godfather of Advocacy.” Dean's vision and philanthropic support served to catalyze the creation of the Association’s federal public policy program and the Golden West Chapter’s program in California. Subsequently many other Chapters have followed suit and created their own State advocacy programs. It is estimated thatAssociation-wide advocacy efforts have generated over a billion dollars in support of families and patient care, the ALS National Registry, and for pivotal research advancing the search for treatments and cures for ALS.
Dean is an emeritus trustee of the National ALS Association; Founder and Emeritus Chair of The ALS Association Federal Advocacy Committee; and is an ongoing supporter of ALS advocacy efforts throughout California and Hawaii. Dean’s wife, Kathleen, is also deeply committed to the ALS community. Kathleen serves as a Trustee of the Golden West Chapter and is the former Chair of the Board of Directors of The ALS Association Greater Los Angeles Chapter. She successfully co-chaired the merger of the Greater Bay Area and Los Angeles Chapters into the Golden West Chapter in 2010. She is an Emeritus Trustee of the Harvard Medical School Neuro Discovery Center.
As you may know, Dean suffers from Parkinson's Disease. But you may not have know that ALS and Parkinson's are both neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore since Dean's Parkinson’s diagnosis 20 years ago, we have redoubled our support of the ALS Association Golden West Chapter.
On the occasion of his 80th birthday, we invite you to join us in honoring Dean and his commitment to fighting neurodegenerative disease and specifically ALS by making a donation in tribute to him and in support of his fight against ALS and neurodegenerative disease.
