As we embark on our married life together, our future will also include our journey with ALS. Fortunately we have tapped into a local resource, the Golden West Chapter of The ALS Association, and as a result, we are being supported in ways that are invaluable to us. Our Care Manager, Kathleen Kelsey, is a kind and helpful expert on how to live well with ALS. We are connected to a team of clinicians who provide multidisciplinary care. We have access to all of this, and more, at no charge as a result of donors who care about the ALS community and empower the Chapter’s programs, services and mission priorities related to care, advocacy and research.
Since we are not in need of any gift items, we invite you to honor our union and celebrate our wedding by making a meaningful gift to the Golden West Chapter. When you do so, you will provide essential help and hope to others in the Santa Barbara region who are facing the challenges of living with ALS every day.
Here is a wide range of examples how gifts at all levels can make a difference:
- $30 provides a special communication board for a person who still has ability to use their hands and feet but can no longer speak
- $150 supports four hours of respite care to provide a much-deserved break for a family caregiver
- $350 funds a voice amplifier and microphone for a patient experiencing bulbar onset/voice weakness and loss
- $500 provides two grants for afterschool and summertime extracurricular and enrichment activities for young people living with a loved one with ALS
- $1,000 underwrites four Chapter support groups open to all people living with ALS and their loved ones
- $5,000 supports two months of Care Manager consultation and engagement in the region
