It is with great sadness that Ann lost her 15+ year battle to ALS on November 18, 2022. In her last days, she continued to tell everyone she met that she accepted what life has given her and that she was grateful for the life she had. On her last day, Ann knew it was her time and told her family “I will never give up, I am just going to let go.” We wear our ALS Network bracelets to remember her brave spirit. Also, when you see a butterfly, think of Ann. This is how we see her now free from the binding disease that she fought so bravely.

What is ALS?  

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, ALS is a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease that slowly robs a person of their ability to walk, speak, swallow, and, eventually, to breathe.

Why We Urgently Need Your Help

Every 90 minutes, a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90 minutes, another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, gender, or socioeconomic boundaries.

1. The average life expectancy of a person with ALS is two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
2. ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease. Someone you know or love may be diagnosed in their lifetime.
3. For unknown reasons, military veterans are more likely to be diagnosed with the disease than the general public.
4. Caring for a loved one with ALS can cost an average of over $200,000 each year.
