Running for Ray
Thank you everyone who have donated so far!
My Uncle Raymond Vargas was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in 2015- what started as a mild pain in his hand slowly developed into a more severe condition, which later was diagnosed as ALS. My uncle is quiet and prideful man, filled with humor and joy. As a 35 year veteran of the California Department of Corrections, he has always been quick with a joke and spouting off one liners which gained him admiration and respect from his many friends and colleagues. Over the years, his condition has worsen and has placed him in a wheelchair with very limited mobility and forced to use a computer to "speak". Though the disease has crimpled him severely, my uncle has fought tremendously to stay positive and battle through the disease. Our family has continued to support him and surround him throughout this time. I believe the love and support from our family and many friends, has continued to strengthen his fight against ALS.
ALS is a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone. A person with ALS becomes physically locked-in as the disease progressively paralyzes the body. Please consider a small sponsorship to help support the fight for the disease.
