Why I Participate...
As the one-year anniversary of losing my mom to ALS approaches, I'm running to honor Mami’s memory and continue her fight. Every step I take, every donation received, is a testament to the unconditional love we shared and a heartfelt commitment to battle on behalf of all those affected by ALS. With every mile, I carry Mami's memory forward, determined to turn grief into action, and hopeful that one day, we will find a cure.
What is ALS?
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, ALS is a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease that slowly robs a person of their ability to walk, speak, swallow, and, eventually, to breathe.
Why We Urgently Need Your Help
Every 90 minutes, a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90 minutes, another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
The average life expectancy of a person with ALS is two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease. Someone you know or love may be diagnosed
For unknown reasons, military veterans are more likely to be diagnosed with the disease than the general public.
Caring for a loved one with ALS costs an average of $200,000 each year.
