On September 14,2024 we are participating in the Annual Napa Valley Ride/Walk to Defeat ALS.  This will be our family’s 10th ride to date. We will be raising funds for the ALS Network, which provides care services, funds research and supports important public policy initiatives.

As you know, Miles was diagnosed with an unusual form of ALS ten years ago.  He is living each moment and trying to get the most out of each experience and every potential memory. Miles just returned from a trip to Paris with his 2 sisters, Jane and Amy; brother-in-law, Jeremy; niece, Lilli; and nephew, Toby.  A great time was had by all.

For those of you who haven't seen Miles in a while his progression is still quite slow. In the past year Miles may have lost a little more of his verbal skills but seems steady other than that.  His hands and arms are still working quite well, and he has been putting his shop to good use.  Right now, he is refinishing his grandmother’s trunk and that is on the heels of doing the woodworking for a gate and fence for us.  He is also perfecting his fountain making skills.  The ‘shop’ is his favorite place to be and is a lifesaver as far as giving Miles the opportunity to be productive and fully engaged in what he loves to do.

This year's ride will be one week earlier than usual so check your calendars.   Miles will be riding the motorized recumbent bike with all the team members and me.  If you'd like to ride with us, please join Team (S)Miles.  We'd love to have you or if you'd rather sponsor me in the ride that would be wonderful too.  In any case we appreciate all the support you have given to us over the last full decade.  It is amazing to be surrounded by so many loving and caring friends and family, at the ride and it our daily lives.
